Writer's Statement

Strapline: 'Only you can fight against your demons'

Logline: The Chosen One of Andaras is thrown into a battle she didn't want, where she can choose to either fight and save her home, or fall victim to the dark forces against her.

SYNOPSIS 

A Fantasy feature film that follows a group of warriors, Kato Yua, Natalie, Ethlyn and Jang Ae-Yong following the destruction of their home, and the kidnapping of the Chosen One and the Protector of the Realm, Aria.

Yua, Natalie, Ethlyn and Ae-Yong reunite months later to discover what caused the attack on their home, as well as the fate of the Chosen One and the Realm, as well as finding a way to defeat the Shadow Lord, a powerful being that as sealed away thousands of years ago, ith the singular goal of destroying Andaras and killing Aria.

VISION 

For me, this story, while it may look on the surface to be a typical good vs bad, it goes deeper than that. I decided to create this as a story of portraying mental health through the characters and their environment. I've been passionate about mental health awareness since the middle of 2017, when I lost someone I looked up to, to his demons. I feel that my way of interpreting this theme in my own way and presenting it as a Fantasy film, makes it accessible to a big audience, while also containing a strong message that needs to be shown. 

For the roles of the main five girls, I would want a diverse cast. While writing the script, I wanted the ethnicity of the characters to be left out, to leave it down to the reader/studio as to who they would want on these roles

Fantasy genre conventions are often set as taking the audience to a fantastical world, where magic and make-believe creatures are found. For my script, all these conventions are there. while my world is inspired by Ireland as well as some of the elements, such as the fort where we first meet Ae-Yong, Natalie and Ethlyn, as well as the Tree of Life in Yua's dream when they find Odella, the world is also inspired by some Japanese and Korean culture as well as medieval elements. As for the make-believe creatures, they consist of the Pegasus summoned by magic, as well as the demons that are the evil force within the world.

Dungeness - location project

On Thursday, our class went to Dungeness for a day location project. For our pre-production phase on Monday, we went into groups of three (I was with Alyssa and Katie) and were instructed to write a 2/3 page script which we could film at Dungeness (Thursday) and then edit today (Friday) for screening on Monday in front of the class. After looking up Dungeness on Google Maps for location inspiration, we found two key areas we wanted to use.  The abandoned shed (left) and the beach front (right). These two areas gave us the inspiration for our script, which was about two friends who has returned to the beach where their friend had died. The beach front represents where the friend died and the shed represents where they used to hang out as a trio. Myself and Alyssa chose to be the two character on-screen, while Katie was our narrator and third character in the occasional shot. Year 3, pre-production - Camera workshop

In our first workshop of the year, we were given the chance to work with the new Sony A7 cameras and test them out, as well as see how to work them. Unfortunately the file size is too big, possible because I my have been recording for too long, but in this  recording test I did which had the focus adjusted so Sam and Logan where the focus (sharpest) images, while the tables and background were slightly blurred to given more attention to the two of them. It was a lot of fun to test these cameras out, as well seeing the quality they have compared to the other cameras we have previously used, as well as tis, we also learn't that they have capabilities for slow motion and low light, which can look incredible when done right.

Richard Grannon interview and transcript

For the first interview of our documentary, we interviewed Rochard Grannon who runs 'Spartan Life Coach', Richard is an 'NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) master practitioner, is passionate about helping people defend themselves, get back on their feet and finally free themselves from narcissistic abuse'. He also focuses on social media and aspects of it alongside social media. We choose Richard for this interview as we felt we could get two elements of both mental health and social media in one. We interviewed him on the 5th of May for roughly twenty minutes exploring how social media can affect mental health and how it has affected our society as a whole. Below is the interview video from that day. For transcribing his interview, I played through his interview many many times in order to write down his answers to every question Aodhan asked.
