AS Live - Analysis of a studio production for your initial pitch
For
Sydney’s idea of ‘Cheat Box’ we did our own research into similar shows that
could influence ours.
For
myself, I decided to watch ‘Would I Lie To You?’, this show (aired on BBC One) shows two teams going against one another as “are
telling true stories from their weird and wonderful lives, or spinning a tall
tale based on a lie given to them by the production team” (Fullerton, 2016). The bit
about the production team interested me as I always thought the guest made up
their own lies, rather than a lie being handed to them.
The host, Rob Brydon, is someone
who seems to be straight to the point, yet clear and witty, being able to hold
the audience. These were the kind of elements we were looking for in a host, someone
who could hold the audience while also being engaging and captivating: “He’s a light entertainment fixture and cheeriness
personified.” (Preston, 2012) This quote tells us that Rob is the kind of guy
for our show as our show is all about being entertaining or cheerful, while
still having comedic and teamwork elements mixed in.
Our
idea of ‘Cheat Box’ is similar in this regard to ‘Would I Lie To You?’ as we
have elements of two separate teams working together to work out if the other the team is cheating or not, we also have two other rounds similar to this approach.
However, for our final round choice ‘Sabotage’, we decided to venture away and
do something different, for this round, we choose to have the winning team
battle themselves, something not done in WYLTM.
In
terms of their graphics, their logo (shown in the image below) is colorful and
eye-catching which is sure to attract their audience of 16+. This inspired us
in the way we would our own logo as were aiming for a similar target audience
age, we also wanted to have a school theme included in our show, so we knew we needed
to keep our logo colorful yet eye-catching.
For our logo, Sydney created the graphic, which was
a purple-colored box and within it, was the golden-colored show name ‘Cheat
Box’. To create this logo, we bounced around ideas for a bit before deciding to
reflect our show in its logo, literally, by showing the logo within a physical box.
If we had the time, we were also planning to animate
our logo to reflect the cheating part of the show, by possibly having a hand
reach into the box to try and grab part of the text, but be caught and having
to move away.
