TV News - Analysis of a Live News item
The story being analyzed:
From poverty to Politics: Meet Brazils AOC - BBC News (13th November 2019) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4y-gRsBPqecWhen watching this through, I focused on several things that I knew would be key towards our own news piece:
- Camera - shaky camera, possibly hand-held, general view shots to fill in sequences and to cut between different pieces
- A studio presenter
- Reporter delivers his speech clear way - voice-over, he is off-location of the filming but still inside in the country.

Presentation techniques:
For this piece, even though the presenter, Robin Brant , was not directly on-site, most likely due to the dangerous situation the camera crew was in themselves, it still showed him presenting to a camera still within the city, calmly and clearly. This shows he is well-versed to be delivering a news piece like this even though he is away from the 'action'. What I also noticed, is that he still was delivering directly to the camera and keeping focus, something which is important for a reporter as it connects them to the audience and makes them want to listen, which is something extremely important for a news piece such as this.
Camera techniques:
For normal camera techniques, it is normally a mounted camera on a tripod, however, due to the presenter not being on location and to the dangerous situation taking place, the camera is hand-held ad while this makes the footage look shaky, it was most likely made hand-held for the crew's own safety. This is something that I found interesting as a lot of reporter lead pieces when they are delivering directly to the camera are normally on a tripod to keep the footage steady.
Studio introduction:
This piece has a studio introduction to the piece, where the presenter spoke directly to the camera as it came in towards her. Her tone was clear and loud, getting straight to the point of the news piece they were going into before it moved to the live segment. This was the larger focus for me when I watched this news piece as our group needed to make clear but engaging studio segments to help flow smoothly between our two news pieces.
